One of the health services offered in this country is a service called HSEP which is a hospital based service for older people who are acutely ill and for the older people who require rehabilitation. The acutely ill patients are often referred from A&E for assessment. HSEP also acts as a liaison managing elderly patients who require treatment in areas such as orthopaedics, psychiatrics or for general surgery.

HSEP also run clinics specialising in things such as elderly people who have had falls, who suffer from Parkinson’s or just problems relating to age.  It is one of the better community health services in this country. It offers a service that is a vital link for many elderly patients offering them the support that the need while undergoing treatment both in hospital and out of it. They are the link between hospitals and the elderly patients that make a difference every single day. It is a health service that does good work without taking to much glory.

Of all the health service we have this is one of the more important. Something like going to hospital can be a scary thing for anyone but if you are older it can seem a hundred times worse. For this the help that the HSEP offers is vital. Long may it continue!
